THE  CAD

No heart is so black and devoid of light
Nor so much colder than permafrost tundra
Than his
Yet he is fair, his smile too enchanting
Deceptive warmth in his eyes
Rogue, indeed, the cad
For he would twine your regard into love
Your diamond tears would he cherish
Lap them like honey
In the knowledge that your anguish
Was the fruit of his evil
He would have you call him friend
While drop by drop
He leeched from you love's life-blood
Until he could say
No heart is so black and devoid of light
Nor so much colder than permafrost tundra
Than yours.
